Little Man Sam

We might be insane. For the last few months, Marnie has been saying she was going to ask Santa for a black kitty. Soon, Britt started saying he liked that idea, and he was going to ask for his own kitten for Christmas. I should mention, we already have a dog, a corn snake, and two gerbils. So the thought of adding TWO more (eating, pooping) animals to our house was not a super-duper welcome one. We went back and forth on getting a cat (just ONE) at all, then we found out about a tiny black rescue kitten at our vet's office. When he was about a week old, someone had found him and one of his litter-mates in their yard. It seems they had been abandoned by their mother. The other kitten didn't survive, so the person took the survivor to the vet and asked them to euthanize him. A sweet vet tech offered to foster him and give him a chance. She bottle-fed him and raised him with another rescue kitty who was a couple weeks older. Marnie and I went to meet him at the vet's office and she fell in love. We adopted him when he was about a month old. He really is a sweet cat. He was already litter box trained and comfortable with big dogs and kids, so that's made the transition pretty easy. Really, the hardest part has been weaning him off his bottle. He recently discovered that one of Marnie's fingers is the right size, so she is his pacifier now. Ha! We named him Sam, but he also goes by Harper (basically, Hyper in a funny voice) and Spazzy McGee. Griz has been amazing with him from the beginning. He is the most patient, gentle dog. They play together and nap together all day. Griz already lets Sam boss him around too. It's pretty ridiculously adorable.

First time meeting face-to-face

Exploring Marnie's room

Poor guy is still wearing his baby fur. It's coming in thicker and darker now though.

They spend 90% of their day snuggled in the sunshine or snuggled in front of the wood stove.

Like I said, ridiculously adorable.
